Mickey's Soundsational Parade Is Well.....Sensational

Every once in awhile I get surprised by something. Even though Disneyland's Mickey's Soundsational Parade is over a year old now, I hadn't seen it until about 6 weeks ago. Now, truth be told, I am not a parade guy. Don't really care for them much except Disneyland's Christmas Fantasy Parade because...well...that parade has Santa Claus in it and anything with Santa is a good thing. But on a cool Sunday afternoon, we grabbed a bench facing the Matterhorn and sat down to watch Mickey's Soundsational Parade...and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Now it could have been that after dragging my sorry behind around the park for most of the day,  any Disneyland activity you can do while sitting on a bench works for me but I also thought the parade was fun, upbeat, colorful, and very nicely staged. The kids just love it. Disneyland's last parade (which I forget the name right now) was pretty weak. Mickey's Soundsational Parade proved to be a surprisingly entertaining show. So good in fact that we saw it a second time later on in the week. About the only thing I didn't care for was the parade ended with Mary Poppins and as much as I am not a parade guy, I am definitely not a Mary Poppins guy. That woman has haunted me for years, from the time I was 9 years old and actually saw it in a movie theater. Something about her flying around sky with an umbrella that just gave me the creeps (and nightmares). The rest of Mickey's Soundsational Parade gets a big thumbs up.

Here are some pictures - I think Mrs. DisneylandTraveler took all of them hence, blurriness is kept to a minimum.

Now There's A Parade

The new Mickey's Soundsational Parade made its debut on Main St. this past Thursday and early reports have this parade being a more in line with the tradition of great Disneyland parades. The MousePlanet Video posted here gives a generous flavor of the music and color of this classic character filled extravaganza. The parade in its entirety looks like it runs about 15 minutes in length from the full videos posted on YouTube.

I look forward to seeing Mickey's Soundsational Parade down the road sometime. The Disneyland parades usually have about a 2 year lifespan and this one looks like a great improvement of its predecessor whose name escapes at the moment since its been gone about 6 months. How disappointing was the last Main St. Disneyland Parade?  Like I said, I can't recall its name and its not even worth the 30 second effort it would take me to find out.  It was so bad, I'd rather be in a Main St. gift shop rather than outside looking at a parade that was more insufferable than memorable.

Strike up the band Mickey and get ready for a great summer.
